The Opportunity

Sew Ready is undergoing a significant period of growth. We are investing in our communities and have developed a new strategy to enable the delivery of our social mission. We are therefore seeking 12 likeminded and highly motivated individuals to join our academic team across Northern Ireland. 

 

As a Sew Ready Associate you will play a key role, delivering our unique children’s programmes aimed at 7-11 year olds. This is a rewarding role for individuals who enjoy working with children, are energetic, enthusiastic and creative. Shadowing the company founder, you will be fully trained in hand sewing and machine sewing before becoming responsible for delivering after school sessions solo.

About the Role

Sew Ready is an award winning social enterprise dedicated to restoring sewing skills in primary schools across NI. Sewing supports all areas of children’s development and our unique programmes offer a holistic and playful approach to learning a new skill. As educators, it is our duty to encourage interest, dexterity, confidence and perseverance through sewing.

During the sessions you will lead the class in a range of creative and fun sewing activities and games. You will work with the same group of children over a 6-8 week term and will be responsible for their skill development, well-being and for delivering an enjoyable and safe experience while at the sessions.

About You

We are looking for motivated and committed individuals, to provide delivery of our after school clubs and children's sewing workshops. You will have a knowledge of art and design materials and experience of working independently as part of a busy team, to manage and prioritise your own workload. Good communication skills, time keeping and attention to detail are essential.

Successful candidates must:​

  • Be willing to undergo an Access NI Check

  • Hold a valid driver's license

Our social mission is to reintroduce a passion for sewing and textiles among young people and adults in Northern Ireland to help bridge the current skills gap within garment construction and save a skill from being lost in our generation.
