What Makes Sew Ready Unique? Sew Ready isn’t just a sewing class, it’s a movement rooted in traditional techniques and thoughtfully adapted for today’s makers. It’s not about fast fashion or fleeting trends. It’s about stitching with intention, developing lifelong skills, nurturing creativity, and building confidence through every project. Expect inspiring challenges, beautifully guided tutorials, mindful making, and a supportive community all led by Sew Ready’s signature approach: calm, empowering, and filled with purpose.
Is it suitable for beginners? Absolutely. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine or are picking it back up after a break, our beginner-friendly classes are designed to support you from your very first stitch. Our 10-day Starter Series introduces the essential foundations of sewing: threading, tension, seam types, and safe machine handling, so you can build confidence and skills step by step. Each session is clearly guided, with calm, intuitive instruction that makes sewing feel personal, empowering, and entirely achievable.
What equipment should I be using? If you're learning with us at Sew Ready, the good news is, you don’t need to bring a thing. We provide everything you need to get started in our studio, so you can focus fully on learning and creating without the stress of sourcing tools. We use high-quality equipment, including: Brother Innov-is 15 Sewing Machines – reliable, beginner-friendly machines with easy-to-use features that help build confidence and precision. Fiskars Fabric Scissors – trusted for their sharpness and comfort, perfect for accurate cutting. Professional-Grade Tools – from pins and seam rippers to measuring tapes, fabric markers, and pressing tools, everything is ready and waiting for you. For hand sewing, machine work, or pattern cutting, our studio is fully equipped to support your learning at every stage. Sewing is about patience, precision, and creativity and the right tools simply help bring your vision to life.
How often should I sew to see progress? Sewing, like any skill, thrives on consistency. The more regularly you practise, the more confident and capable you’ll be.  At Sew Ready, we understand that space at home can sometimes make daily sewing feel difficult. That’s why we encourage setting aside dedicated time, an hour or two each week or across a few days, to truly get into your creative flow. This focused time makes a noticeable difference, whether you’re pattern cutting, practising seams, or hand sewing. Our classes are designed to be more than just skill-building. They’re a chance to step out of the everyday, connect with others, and enjoy the process of making. You’ll progress at your own pace, with support and inspiration every step of the way. Remember: it’s not about perfection. It’s about progress. Every time you sit at the machine or pick up a needle, you’re learning, growing, and creating something uniquely yours.
Are there live classes or only on-demand videos? At the moment, we’re preparing this content so you’ll soon have the best of both worlds. We plan to release a new pre-recorded sewing class each week, alongside a live weekly workshop where you can sew along in real time and connect with our community of makers. Whether you join us live or catch up on demand, each class will be thoughtfully designed to inspire creativity, build skills, and fit easily into your schedule. More information coming soon.
How do I join the community? Our Sew Ready community is most active in the studio, where you can connect with like-minded makers, find sewing buddies, and celebrate every stitch and make together. It’s a warm, supportive space to keep you motivated and inspired throughout your creative journey. You can join the community here and it’s a wonderful way to stay engaged, share ideas, and feel supported.
How old does my child have to be to start Sew Ready? Children can start sewing with us from 6 years old. We’ve carefully designed our classes and studio environment to ensure every young maker feels safe, comfortable, and supported. Safety is our top priority. Our Brother Innov-is 15 machines come with a speed control function so children can sew at a pace that suits them, building confidence without feeling overwhelmed. We provide adjustable stools to help children reach the machine pedal comfortably and maintain good posture while sewing. We also ask that long hair is tied back to keep it clear of the machine, creating a safe workspace. With these parameters in place, children can enjoy learning essential sewing skills in a fun, secure, and nurturing environment.
Do you have any parent and child classes? Yes, we do! Our parent and child classes run once a month on Sundays from 1 to 3pm. These sessions are a wonderful way to build bonds within the home and share a skill that has been passed down through generations. We also offer special themed classes around Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas, designed to highlight the joy and importance of making something tangible together for use in the home. These moments create core memories that last a lifetime, strengthening connection through creativity and shared experience.
